Winter 2009 Newlsetter

Greetings

Wow this year is flying by! It seems with the turning of each year the pace of life gets more hectic, and finding ways to save time and cut costs are mandatory in order to survive. In this newsletter I have shared some tips that I have found useful in hopes they will help make your life easier, or keep a little more green in your pocket!

I would like to take a moment to thank our loyal customers who ordered multiple PortaVaults as holiday gifts for family, friends and clients.  The best compliment the creator of a product can have is when it is recommended and shared by its customers; your support of the PortaVault means a great deal to us.  My goal was to create an easy to use, comprehensive solution for organizing important records and documents; we did it - thanks to you.

You have received this newsletter because you are a customer, friend or someone I thought would be interested in the topics we cover. Enjoy and as always I welcome your comments and suggestions about our products or newsletter at sherie@securitaonline.com

Regards,

Giving Back to Your Community

The holiday season is a great time to volunteer and help others in their time of need. Giving back to the community can be a highly rewarding experience and is a wonderful way to share the joy of the season. To make the experience even better, here are a few holiday volunteering tips from The Volunteer Center of United Way:

  • Plan ahead: holiday volunteer opportunities fill up quickly.
  • Invite friends and family to join you: it may become a healthy habit!
  • Be flexible: non-profits are very busy during the holidays. The interests you have might not match their needs. Venture outside your comfort zone if you really want to help.
  • Agencies need volunteers year-round. Consider starting a volunteer project during the holidays but continuing it monthly or quarterly.
  • Think "outside the box." When it comes to the holidays, we usually think of either food or gifts, but every activity we do for others is an act of kindness that will enhance the holidays for everyone. Clean the environment, visit a senior, tutor a child. It all helps.
  • Above all, have fun in the spirit of the season and know that you are making a difference.

Preventing Identity Theft during the Holidays

The holiday season is the season for giving, and unfortunately also the peak stealing season for identity thieves and con artists. These criminals are out in full force during the biggest shopping season of the year, just waiting for the right opportunity to take advantage of stressed and distracted shoppers. You can never be too safe when it comes to your personal information. By understanding the risks and taking extra precautions, you can give yourself the best holiday gift of all: peace of mind that your identity is safe.

Online Shopping

Use only authenticated Web sites to conduct business online. Before submitting personal or financial information through a Web site, check for the locked padlock image on your browser's status bar or look for "https://" (rather than http://) in your browser window. According to the Better Business Bureau, secure sites will have "https" instead of "http" in the Web address of the purchasing information page.If you have any concerns about the authenticity of a Web page, call the site's owner to confirm the URL.

Shopping at the Mall

Be aware of people standing nearby when you are making purchases. Identity thefts have been known to copy credit card information or even take pictures of cards on their cell phone cameras. Shopping malls are especially crowded during the holidays, so carry your wallet or purse securely. Write "Check Photo ID" in permanent ink on your credit card, near your signature. This is an effective way to remind cashiers to check your identity before processing your card.

 * To ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday season this year, consider enrolling in a consumer protection program. Your credit card company or bank may offer this service or check out the independent companies that offer these programs.
