Greetings

Happy New Year!

As we say good-bye to 2009 I want to thank all of our loyal customers - your referrals mean so much to us. And we loved hearing your stories about how the PortaVault has improved your life. You are our inspiration!

Like many of you I have made some New Years Resolutions, besides the usually ones of getting fit I am also going to make it a goal to laugh out loud once a day.  My husband always starts his morning by reading the funnies in the newspaper - he smiles and chuckles and gets a great attitude for the day ahead.  To help lighten up your day and bring a smile to your face we have added "A Little Humor" section  to our eletter.  We welcome your participation in our goal to make people smile - so please send us funny stories, jokes etc that our readers would appreciate.

Our eletter will once again be monthly and will provide information that we hope you find interesting and helpful to your life and also assist in the maintenance of your PortaVault.

You have received this newsletter because you are a customer, friend or someone I thought would be interested in the topics we cover. Enjoy and as always I welcome your comments and suggestions about our products or newsletter at sherie@securitaonline.com

Ideas Worth Exploring

iBraclet

Have you heard about invisibleBracelet.org which is a HIPAA-compliant Web service that allows its members to share vital health information during emergencies with participating Emergency Medical Service (EMS) providers. In the event of a medical emergency, responding medics within a service area can access the information you have made available. If transport is required, text or email messages will be delivered to your In Case of Emergency (ICE) contacts. For $5 a year, basic health information and up to 10 emergency contacts are stored under a computer-assigned PIN number that's kept on a wallet card with your driver's license, a key fob or a sticker on an insurance card.

The registry is a complement to the medical alert jewelry that people with diabetes, asthma and a host of other conditions have used for decades to signal their needs in an emergency.

Know Your Stuff - Home Inventory Update

On the Insurance Divider in the PortaVault we included information on taking a home inventory and referenced the Insurance Information Institute free software, which could be downloaded and maintained on your own computer.  In 2009 the Insurance Information Institute released a new version of their Know Your Stuff - Home Inventory software.  The new release includes free secure online storage, as well as many other new features including the ability to create inventories for multiple locations and a maintenance calendar.  Find out more at www.knowyourstuff.org

Having an up to date inventory will help you:

  • Purchase enough insurance to replace the things you own
  • Get your insurance claims settled faster
  • Substantiate unreimbursed property insurance losses for you income tax return or to apply for disaster assistance.

Health-e-cards

Did your friends and family members share with you their New Years Resolutions which may have included; loose weight, get fit, eat better, reduce stress or quit smoking? Would you like to help your family and  friends stay focused on their resolutions throughout the year?  Check out the selection of Health-e-cards that can be sent for free at http://www.cdc.gov/Features/Health-e-Cards
The Health-e-card is a  colorful greeting that encourages healthy living in the New Year, promotes safe activities year-round, celebrates a health- and safety-related event, and may help your loved ones keep their resolutions.

Google and Your Phone Number

Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar, hit enter, and you will be provided the owner's name and possibly their complete address.  If you then hit Map, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this! It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a person gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives.  The safety issues are obvious, and alarming.

In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to: www.google.com  Type your phone number in the search bar (i.e. 555-555-1212) and hit enter.

If you want to block Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then  click on the Removal Form. Removal takes 48 hours. Please share this information with friends and family.

A LITTLE HUMOR

Did you ever find yourself thinking there are just too many laws?  Well, there are more laws out there than you think - laws that were put on the books and then forgotten.  Here are just a few that I hope will bring a smile to your face and some laughter to your voice.

Marshalltown, Iowa - its illegal for horses to eat fire hydrants.

Texas - when two trains meet each other at a railroad crossing, each shall come to a full stop, and neither shall proceed until the other has gone.

Florida - the law states that if an elephant is tied to a parking meter, it must pay the same fees as a car.

Utah - state law prohibits fishing from horseback

Rochester, Michigan - the law states that anyone appearing in public in a bathing suit must have it inspected by a police officer.

Wyoming - its against the law to take a picture of a rabbit in the months of January, February, March or April.
